About

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Georgia Institute of Technology, and Instructor Teacher of the Electrical Engineering Department (Area of Automatic Control and Bioengineering) at the University of Chile. I am currently working in the design, implementation, and testing of a Particle Filtering framework for FDI and failure prognosis. I joined GeorgiaTech in 2003, and earned a Master of Science degree in December 2005. I received B. Sc. degree (1999) and a Civil Industrial Engineering degree with Electrical Major (2001) from Catholic University of Chile; where I also participated as Research Assistant in the areas of Power Electronics and Automatic Control (2000-2001). As a Project Engineer, I worked in CONTAC INGENIEROS LTDA (2001) in the design and implementation of SCAN, a multivariate statistical software for system monitoring.

Research

My research interests include system identification, fault detection and isolation (FDI), failure prognosis, and statistical process control. Amongst the techniques and approaches that I am familiar with I can mention sequential Monte Carlo methods (Particle Filtering), Kalman filtering, multivariate statistical analysis (PCA and PLS), wavelet analysis, fuzzy expert systems, fuzzy predictive control, neural networks. At the moment, I am focused in the implementation of a FDI and failure prognosis framework that uses particle filters as a tool for pdf estimation in nonlinear, time-varying, and non-Gaussian systems. More information may be found in my publications.
